Best tavern dining For casual tavern dining and Wisconsin tradition with a full service restaurant menu, Morton’s is the place to be. When you enter this historic 1905 building, you will immediately be struck by the style. There are kitsch pieces covering every interior wall. You will definitely have to visit more than once to see it all. Beyond the décor, Morton’s is definitely best known for its food. Everything here is homemade and chef Tim Ryan is known for his original recipes and specialty dinners. Favorites here include the brats, sausages and build-your-own hamburgers, which begin with a 14-ounce patty. This is one of the few places left where you can still order your burger rare. Business partner Chris Morton runs the tavern portion of the operation. His Bloody Mary’s are well worth a stop. On Wednesday, it’s Mexican food night and local entertainment is featured, which could be anything from blues and bluegrass to jazz. Another popular day to visit is Thursday, when you can enjoy the pasta bar that’s open for both lunch and dinner. Friday, of course, is Fish Fry night. Come for the Sunday brunch, when you can try the popular Surf and Turf Bloody Mary. Start your meal with an appetizer, such as the coconut Cajun crusted shrimp, and try a specialty like the jalapeno blue cheese bratwurst or the delicious blackened swordfish for your main course. No matter what you choose, you won’t go home hungry at Morton’s. |
