WSSS presents Community Sing with Craig Siemsen, Julie Thompson & Mark Dvorak
The Wisconsin Singer/Songwriter Series again welcomes 3 very talented Midwest folk singers and song leaders for our 3rd Annual Community Sing. The event will feature the songs of legendary folk artist, songwriter and activist Pete Seeger led by Mark Dvorak of Chicago, Julie Thompson of Milwaukee and Craig Siemsen, also of Milwaukee. The trio will take turns leading the audience through some of Seeger’s best-known songs of the past that most folks already know, and bring the audience to full voice for the entire song. All lyrics will be provided.
This is a one of a kind evening that is part of a new singing movement that started at the Ten Pound Fiddle in East Lansing, Michigan, and has spread throughout the country. “The idea is to get people - of all ages - singing together in a social setting. The experience can be transforming," said Siemsen. "We try to choose familiar songs that the audience may already know, but we also like to challenge them with other types of songs that may be unfamiliar."
“Community singing is popping up all over the place,” said Dvorak, who is artist-in-residence at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. “Craig, Julie and I are thrilled and ready to bring our program back to Mequon."
Join musicians Mark Dvorak, Julie Thompson, and Craig Siemsen for this unique and enjoyable evening. This full audience participation performance has been described as amazingly fun and transforming.
